Pourquoi ?

Parsnips (Pastinaca sativa) are root vegetables closely related to carrots, and similarly safe for dogs. They provide vitamin C, folate, potassium, and manganese along with good fiber content. The natural sweetness from their fructose content (higher than carrots) makes them palatable to most dogs.

Cooked or raw parsnips are both safe — raw provides more vitamin C, while cooked is softer for senior dogs. Avoid parsnips cooked with butter, garlic, or seasoning for human consumption; plain steamed or raw parsnips are ideal.

Parsnips should not be confused with wild parsnip (Pastinaca sativa var. sylvestris), which contains furanocoumarins that cause severe photosensitivity skin reactions — only commercially grown parsnips are appropriate.
