Pourquoi ?

Rhubarb leaves contain soluble calcium oxalates and oxalic acid in high concentrations. When ingested, these bind calcium in the bloodstream, causing hypocalcemia, and deposit as crystals in kidney tubules, causing acute kidney failure.

The rhubarb stalk (the edible human portion) contains significantly lower oxalate levels but still poses risk in large amounts. The leaves are the most dangerous part and should be kept completely away from dogs.

Quelle quantité est dangereuse ?

The leaves are toxic at relatively small amounts. Stalk toxicity requires larger quantities but should still be avoided.

Que dois-je faire ?
