Pourquoi ?

Cooked eggs are an excellent, digestible source of complete protein for dogs. They contain all essential amino acids, healthy fats, vitamins A, D, E, and B12, as well as riboflavin, folate, and iron. Many veterinary-formulated fresh dog food diets include eggs as a primary protein source.

The raw egg caveat: raw egg whites contain avidin, a protein that binds to biotin (vitamin B7) and prevents its absorption. Chronic consumption of raw egg whites causes biotin deficiency. Additionally, raw eggs carry Salmonella risk — particularly relevant for immunocompromised dogs or households with young children. Cooking destroys avidin and eliminates Salmonella risk.

Cooked eggs without seasonings — plain scrambled, hard-boiled, or poached — are the ideal form.

Questions fréquentes

Can dogs eat raw eggs?

Not recommended. The avidin in raw whites blocks biotin absorption with chronic feeding, and Salmonella is a real risk. Cook the egg.

Can dogs eat scrambled eggs?

Yes — plain scrambled eggs with no butter, oil, salt, or seasoning. The cooking method matters, not the style.

Can dogs eat the egg shell?

Ground eggshell is a calcium supplement used in some homemade dog food recipes. Whole shells can be sharp — grind them first if offering.
