Pourquoi ?

Cashews are the least toxic of the tree nuts for dogs. They contain no juglone, no known mycotoxins in fresh form, and are digestible in small amounts. They provide protein, magnesium, copper, and some zinc.

The limitation is entirely about fat and calories: cashews contain approximately 12g of fat per ounce. Even a small handful significantly increases a dog's daily fat intake and can trigger GI upset or pancreatitis in predisposed dogs.

Salted cashews compound the sodium concern. Roasted cashews with oil add unnecessary fat. Cashew-flavored products may contain garlic or onion.

For a healthy dog: one to two plain, unsalted cashews occasionally is unlikely to cause problems. Cashews should not be a regular treat due to the caloric density.

Quelle quantité est dangereuse ?

Not toxic. GI upset and pancreatitis risk from fat content at larger amounts.

Quels sont les symptômes ?

DÉBUT :GI: 2–24 hours.
  • GI upset, diarrhea; pancreatitis signs from fat excess

Que dois-je faire ?

One or two plain cashews: no action needed. More than a small handful: monitor for GI symptoms.

Questions fréquentes

Can dogs eat cashew butter?

Plain cashew butter without added salt, sugar, or xylitol is not acutely toxic, but is high in fat. Check labels carefully and offer only in very small amounts.

Are cashews safer than macadamia nuts for dogs?

Yes — macadamia nuts have a specific neurological toxicity not seen with cashews. Cashews are a caloric concern, not an acute toxin concern.
