Warum?

Cooked lentils provide approximately 9g of protein and 8g of fiber per half cup, along with iron, folate, manganese, and B vitamins. They are one of the more nutritious plant protein sources available and are used in grain-free and novel-protein dog food formulations.

Raw or undercooked lentils contain phytates and lectins — compounds that inhibit nutrient absorption and can cause GI irritation. Full cooking neutralizes these. Always offer cooked, plain lentils — no added salt, onion, garlic, or spices used in human lentil preparations.

One consideration: the FDA is investigating a potential link between legume-heavy diets and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs. While the research is ongoing and causation is not established, dogs should not have lentils as a primary protein source — they're best as an occasional food topper or supplement to a complete commercial diet.
