LES CHIENS PEUVENT-ILS MANGER PAPAYA ?
Papaya flesh is safe and contains papain — a natural enzyme that aids protein digestion — but the seeds contain trace amounts of cyanide compounds and should always be removed.
Pourquoi ?
Papaya flesh is genuinely beneficial for dogs: papain, the proteolytic enzyme concentrated in papaya, helps break down proteins and can soothe mild digestive issues. Papaya also provides vitamins A, C, and E, folate, potassium, and fiber. It's soft, easy to digest, and suitable for dogs of all ages including seniors.
The seeds are the concern. Papaya seeds contain a small amount of benzyl isothiocyanate and carpine — an alkaloid with mild toxicity. In small quantities the seeds are not acutely dangerous, but there's no reason to include them when the flesh alone is the beneficial part.
Unripe green papaya contains higher concentrations of papain and latex compounds that can cause GI irritation. Offer ripe (orange) papaya flesh only. Dried papaya is safe but very high in sugar.
Quelle quantité est dangereuse ?
Flesh: not toxic. Seeds: mildly toxic in large quantities — remove them.
Quels sont les symptômes ?
- GI upset from seeds or very large amounts of flesh
Que dois-je faire ?
No action needed for flesh without seeds. Remove seeds before offering.

Can dogs eat dried papaya?
In very small amounts — dried papaya is extremely high in sugar and often contains added sugar or citric acid. Fresh is preferable.
