Pourquoi ?

Dates (Phoenix dactylifera) are intensely sweet dried or semi-dried fruits with one of the highest natural sugar concentrations of any fruit — approximately 63–70% sugar by dry weight. They also contain fiber, potassium, magnesium, and B vitamins.

For healthy dogs, a single piece of date flesh (without the pit) is unlikely to cause acute harm. The pit is an obstruction and mild choking hazard — always remove it. The concern is primarily the sugar content: regular date feeding contributes to obesity, dental decay, and blood sugar dysregulation.

For diabetic dogs or those on weight management, dates are entirely unsuitable. For healthy dogs, treat a half of a pitted date as an occasional high-value treat — not a regular snack.

Quelle quantité est dangereuse ?

Not acutely toxic. Blood sugar, dental, and weight effects from regular or large consumption.

Quels sont les symptômes ?

DÉBUT :N/A for one occasional date.
  • GI upset from sugar if multiple dates eaten; chronic effects from regular feeding (obesity, dental disease)

Que dois-je faire ?

One pitted date occasionally: no action needed. Regular feeding or large amounts: discuss with vet.

Can dogs eat Medjool dates?

Medjool dates are among the largest and sweetest varieties. The same caution applies — remove the pit, offer at most a half occasionally.

Are dates safer than raisins?

Yes — dates have no documented kidney toxicity like raisins do. But they should still be very occasional treats due to extreme sugar content.
