Warum?

Duck is used in novel protein and limited-ingredient dog food formulations as an alternative to chicken and beef. Most dogs haven't been exposed to duck, making it useful for food allergy elimination trials — a dog with chicken or beef allergy typically tolerates duck well.

Duck provides complete protein, iron, B12, and zinc. Duck breast (white meat) is leaner than the thigh or leg, but all duck meat is fattier than chicken. The skin is the most problematic part — duck skin is very high in saturated fat and is a reliable pancreatitis trigger.

Cooking method matters: plain boiled, baked, or grilled duck breast without seasoning is appropriate. Duck confit (cooked in fat), Peking duck (glazed), and seasoned restaurant duck preparations are not safe.

Welche Menge ist gefährlich?

Not toxic. Duck skin and fat: pancreatitis risk.

  • pancreatitis from skin/fat: vomiting, abdominal pain, lethargy — not toxicity from meat itself

Was soll ich tun?

Häufige Fragen

Is duck a good choice for dogs with chicken allergies?

Often yes — duck is a genuinely novel protein for most dogs. For strict allergy elimination, use it in a single-protein diet without cross-contaminated ingredients.

Can dogs eat duck bones?

Never cooked duck bones — they splinter. Raw duck necks are used in raw diets but carry the same pathogen and obstruction risks as any raw bone.
