Why?

Apples are a good source of fiber, vitamins A and C, and antioxidants. The crunchy texture is appealing to most dogs and provides mild dental mechanical cleaning. Sliced apples with core and seeds removed make an ideal training treat or topping for food.

The seeds contain amygdalin and should be removed before offering apples. The core is a choking hazard regardless of seeds. The flesh and skin — the only parts dogs should receive — are entirely safe.

How much is dangerous?

Apple flesh: not toxic. Seeds: see apple-seeds page.

What are the symptoms?

ONSET:N/A for flesh
  • none from flesh; seed risk if core offered — see apple-seeds

What should I do?

⚡

No action needed. Remove core and seeds before serving.
